Jesse Williams: 'Grey's Anatomy' Fans Petition to Have Actor Fired From Series Over BET Awards Speech


Dr. Jackson Avery isn't going anyplace!

A Change.com appeal calling for Jesse Williams to be let go from Gray's Anatomy for his discourse at the BET Awards has accumulated almost 5,000 signs.

As per the request, "Jesse Williams spewed a racist, hate speech against law enforcement and white people at the BET awards. If this was a white person making the same speech about an African American, they would have been fired and globally chastised, as they should be, but there has been no consequences to Williams' actions. There's been no companies making a stand against his racist remarks and no swift action condemning his negative attitude."

"Why was Burke's character terminated from Gray's Anatomy after his unseemly homophobic slur, however nothing for Jesse Williams?" it proceeded.

In the wake of getting the Humanitarian Award for his endeavors to bring issues to light of the Black Lives Matter development, Williams educated PEOPLE that his discourse was concerning telling individuals they aren't the only one.

"Words are just in the same class as the reaction to those words," he said. "In any case, I'd like to believe that I give individuals a feeling that they are not the only one."

"In the event that we continue harming our kids to trust that we are nothing and that white individuals are everything, that is the point at which it gets itself reflected in the way we treat each other," proceeds with Williams. "It isn't so much that convoluted. Reality we are instructing is that each commitment in the historical backdrop of the planet originated from blonde individuals. It's not valid and it's dangerous, and individuals are getting murdered long haul therefore. Individuals don't trust that we merit it."
